This recipe works for any citrus fruit, such as lemons, limes or grapefruit!
Ingredients:
*This recipe makes about 20 candies, and I used 2 big oranges*
- Oranges
- White sugar
- Water
How to Make Them:
- Put a pot of water on to boil
- Peel the orange so that you only get the outside skin, not the yellow underneath. Try and peel in long strips
- Once the water is boiled, put the peels inside for 30 seconds. This is just to blanch them and get rid of the bitter taste
- Strain out the peels and pour out the water
- In the same pot, put the peels back in with 3/4 water and 1/2 a cup of sugar
- Leave the peels to come to a boil and for the liquid to reduce and become thick and syrupy. This takes about 15 minutes. You’ll know they’re ready when the peel looks translucent
- Take a tray and pour white sugar and spread it out. Take the peels out of the pot and onto the sugar tray, coating them in the sugar
- Leave them to dry
- Enjoy!
Here are some reference photos during the process!
